The difference your support can make
At the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute, we’re committed to saving lives through groundbreaking research into cardiovascular disease – which continues to kill more Australians every year than any other disease.
We are a registered not-for-profit charity, which allows us tax deductibility and Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status.
As such, we treat our financial transparency very seriously. We publish income and costs in our annual report; comply with the Charitable Fundraising Act; abide by the rules of the NSW Department of Gaming and Racing; and are audited yearly.
Approximately 70% of our funding comes through competitive research grants from bodies like the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) and the Australian Research Council (ARC). This funding is not guaranteed. Our scientists must secure grants on an ongoing basis, in competition with other organisations and university researchers around Australia.
The remaining 30% of our costs are covered through fundraising events, bequests and donations. Research grants do not cover equipment costs, for example, so donations are vital for providing our scientists with the apparatus they need.
By relying on pro bono support, in-kind sponsorship and the help of volunteers to keep fundraising costs to a minimum, most of the money we receive as donations can go directly to supporting our researchers in their fight against heart disease.
