Right now, the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute is investigating the potential side effects of drugs being used to try and treat COVID-19. Some of which can cause serious heart rhythm disturbances.

Utilising state of the art screening technology in the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute’s Innovation Centre, Dr Adam Hill and his team are the first Australian research group to conduct this work.

In some patients proposed treatments of COVID-19 may cause acquired or drug induced long QT syndrome, a heart condition that can potentially be a trigger for fast, chaotic heartbeats. These rapid heartbeats can cause a sudden fainting spell or seizure. In some cases, the heart can beat erratically for so long that it causes sudden death.

We hope to find answers that may create safer treatments to COVID-19.

It is only through research that medical advances are made.

If you can, please make a kind donation today towards life-saving research. You’ll help save lives.
