For Secondary Students
Each year we offer a limited number students from Australian high schools in years 10, 11 or 12, the opportunity for a work experience placement. You will gain a practical understanding of the different types of work in a research area which may help you when making your career decisions.
The work experience program runs through Terms 2 to 4 during term-time. Please contact the Institute at least three months in advance of your desired placement. Work experience placements should be arranged as part of your school’s recognised work-experience program.
When applying for work experience, please study the research pages of the site and consider which groups you would like to visit. After reading about the various research groups in the Institute, please prepare:
- A short application letter (1/2 to 1 page) detailing why you would like to do your work experience with the Institute.
- Include the names of three laboratories at the Institute you would like to visit. We will do our best to accommodate your selections within our operational circumstances.
- Include your most recent science marks.
For further enquiries and to submit an application for work experience, please contact the HR Manager by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
For University Students
We also offer students from Australian universities the opportunity for a work experience placement. Work experience placements are a useful tool in refining your future research interests, and are a valuable addition to your CV.
University student placements are organised by the student direct to a research group or groups. Placements are for one to two weeks full-time, or for a longer period, part-time.
All university placements are strictly unpaid. During the placement, students will essentially work as a research assistant on a single project.
To apply for a university work experience placement, please get in touch directly (via email) with the relevant faculty member or group leader – all contact details can be found on our research pages.
Please note, to arrange a work experience placement, please submit an application to the email addresses provided above, not via the form below.
