Where do my donations go?

When you donate to the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute you enable life-saving research into heart disease. Your donation is critical in progressing our vital research projects such as; 

  • Detecting and potentially preventing heart attacks
  • Discovering how to prevent recurrent miscarriages and various birth defects in babies
  • Developing a test to prevent sudden cardiac arrest
  • Regenerating heart muscle cells after a heart attack
  • Developing innovative transplantation techniques to help save people with heart failure

Thanks to you and donors like you, for over 25 years the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute has been able to make a multitude of incredible breakthroughs which are changing the way people with heart disease are cared for around the globe. Below you will find details on our top 4 blockbuster research breakthroughs.

Major breakthroughs

Every dollar counts!

The only reason our scientists have been able to forge ahead, make discoveries, solve the unsolved and save lives is because we have ongoing support from wonderful people - be it through one-off donations, regular giving, leaving a bequest in their will, major organisation or philanthropic gifts, or fundraising - it all helps! And remember, all donations over $2 are tax deductible, as we are a Registered Charity with DGR status. 

How will my donation be used to fight heart disease?

$25 could grow a flask of stem cells to help us understand the electrical activity in the heart.

$100 could enrol one family into our research program for childhood heart disease, to help discover the causes of birth defects in babies.  

$100 could feed our colony of zebrafish for a month! This is so important as our scientists are studying zebrafish to explore the potential of self healing in humans.

$200 could help screen someone for the risk of arrhythmia or irregular heart beats. 

$1,500 could determine the DNA sequence of a child with congenital heart disease.

$1,500 could purchase one month's supply of lab materials to investigate the regenerative powers of cardiac stem cells.
