Where does my donation go?

At Australia’s home of heart research, our discoveries, funded through the generosity of supporters like you, help people of all ages survive and triumph over heart disease.

By donating to the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute you are supporting:

1. Discoveries that change medicine
Our breakthrough research is changing the way the medical community treats cardiovascular disease, helping save loved ones of every age, all around the world. You can learn more here about the incredible discoveries your donations have helped us to achieve so far.

2. The brightest minds in heart research
Each day, over 200 leading researchers come together across our 23 on-site laboratories in Sydney and Perth to share, collaborate, discover and champion the battle against Australia’s number one killer.

3. Australia’s Centre of Excellence
The world best technology in our brand-new Innovation Centre is heralding a medical research revolution, solving the unsolved faster and moving us closer to finding cures to heart disease.

4. Scientists who are cardiologists too
Many of our scientists are also doctors who care for patients with heart disease. This deep understanding of your needs and troubles best equips us to rapidly transfer discoveries from the lab to patients and back again.

5. Patients who benefit sooner To get the best care and research personalised to your disease, medical partnerships are crucial. We work closely with our neighbours in the St Vincent’s Healthcare Campus, to provide patients, and everyone living with heart disease, quicker access to life-changing discoveries.

Your donation is crucial to our work at Australia’s home of heart research so we ensure that every dollar counts. The performance, cost and efficiency benefits gained from having all of our laboratories, scientists and operations in-house means more funds go directly to triumphing over heart disease.

What is Regular Giving?

Regular giving is an automatic donation from a nominated account, usually once a month.

Our One Heart program makes it simple and easy for you to support life-saving heart research on an ongoing basis, without having to provide your details each time you give.

Regular giving is a fantastic way to support the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute, as it provides steady and reliable income with lower administration costs making more funds available for research. It allows our scientists to budget and plan their research projects.

You can make changes to your regular donations at any time. Whether you need to place them on hold for a couple of months, or change the amount, we are here to help. You are in full control of your regular gifts and you can stay on board with us for as long as you would like.

We will keep you up to date on exactly how your donation is helping us find better treatments and potentially cures for heart disease, by email and the occasional letter.

At the end of the tax year, you will receive a statement of your gifts. Remember, donations over $2 are tax deductible.

I'm a Regular Giver. Can I pause or change the amount I donate?

Of course. We understand that circumstances change, and we are happy to help our supporters maintain their monthly gift in any way we can.

We can place monthly gifts on hold for up to 3 months. Once we have been advised you would like to pause your donations, we will send you an email to confirm the next agreed date for your donations.

Your donations automatically restart on the day that has been agreed. If there are any further changes you need to make during this time, we require that you notify us in advance of the agreed date.

What is face-to-face fundraising?

Face-to-face fundraising enables charities and non-profit organisations to engage with the public in an effective and compelling way to reach new supporters. It is a proven way for charities to find new donors and raise awareness of their cause.

Why does the Institute use face-to-face fundraising techniques?

The Institute has over 50 fundraisers speaking to the public every day to help raise crucial public awareness and funds for the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute.

Regular supporters of the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute, who have been inspired to give through face- to-face fundraising make up the largest percentage of our monthly givers. In short, face-to- face fundraising is an extremely effective way of providing vital, reliable funding to our research projects.

Since the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute began using face-to-face fundraising techniques, our regular giving donations have increased more than tenfold!

We take the training of our face-to-face representatives very seriously and provide full length training sessions at least once a month. This is to ensure our representatives can educate the public and spread awareness of our mission and our research projects, as well as raising funds for the Institute. We also operate regular quality assurance tests to ensure we maintain our high standards of fundraising.

If you would like to check if we have representatives in your area, or if you have any feedback, please send an email to supportercare@victorchang.edu.au. Alternatively you can also call our Donor Care Coordinator on 1300 842 867.

What is a bequest?

A bequest is a wonderful way to leave behind a legacy that will better the lives of many. By leaving a gift in your Will you are helping to prevent premature deaths and potentially saving families from the heartbreak caused by cardiovascular disease.

Learn more about the multiple ways you can make this very special pledge to the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute. Alternatively, for a confidential conversation, you can contact our Bequest Team on (02) 9295 8753.
