Scientist in a lab

Coronavirus Research in Pictures

Behind the scenes of a medical research institute during COVID-19

7 June 2020

This video captures the historic moments in the fight against COVID-19 at the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute.

Never before has there been a more important time to continue biomedical research. The spotlight is on science and the vital role it plays in healthcare delivery. This photo diary documents the critical work of scientists and how laboratories have adapted to ensure research continues, breakthroughs happen and lives are saved.

“This has been a disastrous global pandemic. If there has been a silver lining in these very dark clouds it has been to throw the spotlight on the critical importance of medical research in Australia and around the world. If Australia didn’t have robust medical research we would be in dire straits right now. It has been a remarkable mobilisation of the medical research forces. But that’s just what we do. That’s our calling. And we need the support of the community right now,” - Professor Jason Kovacic, Executive Director.
