Young Appeals Committee's new Chair

James Camilleri appointed Chair of Young Appeals Committee

The Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute is pleased to announce the appointment of James Camilleri as the new Chair of the Young Appeals Committee (YAC).

Mr Camilleri succeeds Jonathan Henry, who has commendably led the committee since September 2018 and will continue to serve on the committee.

The YAC is a volunteer committee established to help engage younger audiences with the Institute and its work through fundraising and awareness activities.

Mr Camilleri has been an active member of the YAC since May 2016 and is deeply committed to advancing the Institute's mission to discover better ways to diagnose, treat, and ultimately prevent heart disease.

Mr. Camilleri's appointment as Chair is a testament to his dedication and unwavering support for the Institute's ground-breaking research initiatives. 

Mr Camilleri has been instrumental in the committee's fundraising efforts over the years, having helped raise more than $600,000 for the Institute as a committee member.

Under the chairmanship of Jonathan Henry, the YAC has enjoyed continued success and seen substantial fundraising growth despite the onset of COVID-19 pandemic. 

"We are immensely grateful to Jonathan for his exemplary leadership and contributions to the Young Appeals Committee during his tenure," said Professor Jason Kovacic, Institute Director and CEO of the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute. 

"Under his guidance, the committee has achieved remarkable milestones, and we look forward to James Camilleri's leadership in continuing this important work."

Mr Camilleri expressed his enthusiasm for his new role, stating: "I am honoured to take on this role and build upon the excellent work of my predecessor, Jonathan Henry. 

"Heart disease remains a significant global health challenge, and the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute is at the forefront of finding innovative solutions. I am eager to work with our dedicated committee members to further our impact and support life-saving research."

The Institute extends its heartfelt gratitude to Jonathan Henry and a warm welcome to James Camilleri as he assumes his new role.
